Like Silk | There’s More to Moiré

A classic of interiors, to use a moiré in design is to embrace its luxury and respect the fluid nature of the fabric. Luxury Plains Moiré takes a cloth steeped in tradition and technique and brings it back to the mood board in a thoroughly modern and wholly useable quality.

Known for fabrics that epitomise luxury and exemplary skill in making, Zoffany’s portfolio of plain fabrics boasts distinct and exquisite characters. Visually appealing with unique textures, each design has been designed and crafted with a focus on how it can be applied in interiors.

With Luxury Plains, this series presents fabrics that are much more than a design moment—quite the opposite. They are eternal classics, from wool satins to velvets, bouclés, and fine chenille, wrapping interiors in timeless texture.

One such fabric stands apart from its plain fellows. A sophisticated, tactile design, its fluidity only adds to its beauty and allure. An evolution of a watered silk, the roots and traditions of the moiré design have been untampered by time, revealing the characteristic irregular and random patterning of unlimited beauty.

Traditionally, moiré is achieved through a time-old traditional process of weaving and layering. This merging of yarns creates the alluring, rippling watermark effect, a technique that has been practiced for centuries and remains unaltered. The finishing technique, known as calendaring, is an incredibly specialised, artisanal finish. This is exactly the process undertaken for Luxury Plains Moiré, as Peter Gomez explains, “Produced by the same Italian mill as our Vertical Moiré for the wall, using a moiré finisher, Luxury Plains Moiré is distinct due to its selected fibres (cotton, polyamide and acrylic) making for a very hardwearing fabric, applicable for upholstery and curtains.”

Luxury – A new way

This Moiré, part of the Luxury Plains series, brings the beauty and gentle decadence of traditional moiré to a new nylon cloth. A sense of movement pervades the cloth, and the natural characteristics of the fabric give way to a regal and stately appearance, effortlessly combining modernity and tradition.

Peter concludes, “There is a timeless elegance to a traditionally crafted moiré; the organic fluidity is unachievable by any other process, which makes this fabric so special. By retaining these artisanal processes in combination with high-performing yarns, Zoffany's Moiré is the ultimate combination of artistry and performance.”
